1-800-Sweeper Summit 2017 Another Success!

It is a tough call, but for the 120+ attendees at Sweeper Summit 2017, the highlight of the event may have been the 2-hour outdoor Equipment Exhibit and Reception held at the base of the Tower of the Americas in Downtown San Antonio. One part luxury magazine photo shoot, and one part opportunity for in-cab, hands-on experience with the newest power sweeping equipment provided by Elgin, Global, Masco, Nitehawk, Schwarze, TYMCO and Well Made, the equipment show featured at the annual Sweeper Summit was an overwhelming success.
As the newest addition to the Sweeper Summit agenda, the Equipment Showcase was incredibly well received prior to conference attendees ascending 750 feet for the main dinner of the 3-day event on Thursday evening, while enjoying a spectacular, panoramic view from the Observation Deck level atop the Tower of the Americas.
For the sixth consecutive year, attendance at Sweeper Summit grew significantly with over 120 attendees which included representatives from 17 Vendors who support 1-800-SWEEPER, the organizer behind the industry event. Additionally, forty-two different 1-800-SWEEPER Member Partner companies were able to meet, mingle and spend 3 days at what is billed as the premier executive level workshop retreat in the power sweeping industry.

Benchmarking Standards and Norms
Again, as in past years, Day 1 Benchmarking workshops allowed participants to discuss in an open, non-competitive atmosphere key business metrics that are driving bottom line profits and day-to-day operations within the niche sweeping service industry. Benchmark sessions were again facilitated by Tom Noon of Industry Insights who dug deep into figures that matter most as reported by the business owners in advance. Attendees came looking to review their own costs for labor, insurance, equipment maintenance, tires, employee turnover and other relevant metrics as cross-compared with sweeper service peers. As Michael Cantel, President of Cantel Sweeping in Gresham, OR commented: “The best part is the attendees are not your competitors, you can ask questions and they will be open and honest with you.”

Days Full of Best Practices and Education
Keeping with the pace of the executive-level attendees, Sweeper Summit got off to an early start each morning with breakfast beginning at 6:30 until 8am leading into Vendor presentations intermixed with best practices workshops. Always willing to share some nitty gritty details, Best Practices workshops were led by Member Partners. Electronic data control for fleet maintenance via Fleetio was led by Scott Duscher of Agua Trucks, Inc. in Phoenix, AZ. Gerry Kesselring (Contract Sweeping, Columbus, OH) shared his company’s experience setting up a structure and procedures for use of in-cab dashcam video recording technology provided by Drive Cam and proper review of videos following an incident.
Digital marketing sessions included best practices for website marketing within your local reach market led by Rick Brown of NetTrack Marketing in Cleveland OH. Social media marketing – with a focus on optimizing Facebook presence was facilitated by Derek Rayburn of Scenic City Studios in Chattanooga, TN.
Rounding out the Workshop sessions, Bob Holdridge of Progressive Sweeping (Toledo, OH) and Pete Phillips of Clean Sweep (Chattanooga, TN) demonstrated their company’s use of the technology behind Eagle Eye – a robust enterprise management tool that empowers managers of wheel based service companies with remote access to all aspects of their business through an integrated web based platform that includes a customer and job CRM feature, job scheduling, route dispatching to any smart devise, performance and exception reporting, billing export to QuickBooks and integration with the Fleetio web based vehicle maintenance software.
