Ladybugs Parking Lot Sweeping Inc

Ladybugs Parking Lot Sweeping Inc is a premier sweeping company located in Louisiana near Lafayette. It was created back in 2005 by a husband and wife team, that purchased the business from an associate of theirs in order to craft an improved life for their family. They have two young daughters and have made it their goal not only to have the best sweeping company but to also offer other services. They have started with parking lot striping, handyman services, construction cleanup, and pressure washing. That’s just the beginning of the kind of beneficial services they are offering the community they love so much in this western part of the state. In this spotlight, you’ll discover what makes Darren and Shelly such great business owners.

How did you start your company?

We bought a company that had already been in business and had a great reputation in 2005. A friend that we knew originally owned it, Ken. He thought we’d be a good fit for the sweeping industry even though both my husband and I were in paramedic school at the time. Plus, we had a new baby, so it was a good opportunity for us to move into a different industry. It was a tough time financially, but we made it through turning the business into our own.

Why did you feel like being in the sweeping industry would work for you as a couple?

It was appealing the concept of running our own business, even though we didn’t know anything about the sweeping business. We’re both fast learners, so that was a plus. We are both from the south. I grew up on a farm not far from where we live now in Lafayette, and Darren is from Arkansas.

How many employees do you have?

With only one location that’s central in Scott, LA, we only need around 15 employees to run our operation. We also use our girls as well sometimes because they love to pitch in! Now they are 12-years-old and 15-years-old, and they understand how important the business is to our family.

How did your business do during the pandemic?

Of course, things were hard during the pandemic. We were able to keep our employees and family as safe as possible. Luckily most of our crew works the sweeping trucks alone, so the physical distancing wasn’t too big of a problem. Now that things are back up and running, it’s been better for the company growth-wise.

Is it difficult to get new companies to use Ladybugs Sweeping?

Our reputation is pretty solid around this area, so the new companies find out about us from our current customers for the most part. It’s easy to get references. We do a little advertising on the radio around here about us, and there is a tv commercial that features our daughters. It’s adorable. That’s been able to bring in new customers.

How many companies use your sweeping service each week?

I would estimate it’s around three to six companies that have a contract with us each week.

Anything new on the horizon for Ladybugs?

Well, we have been consistently adding new services over the years. One that we are particularly proud of lately that’s new is concrete repair. There is a big call for this in Louisiana due to the high humidity and wet weather that can damage concrete. We are always open to coming up with more ways to serve our community.

How is your brand different from other sweeping companies in your area?

I like to think that we are big problem solvers. We’ll bend over backward for all of our clients to do the best job possible, and they know that. We’re totally on top of making sure each job is done the right way in mind to quality.

How do your shifts work for your employees who do the sweeping?

We run 24/7. That means a day and night crew working at all times. The only time we take off for a holiday is Christmas day. Our crews do so many different tasks that are specific to the day or night shifts. The night shift usually starts around 8:30 PM each night. They all have a route to go along for any shift they do.

Tell us a little bit about the equipment you mainly use?

We use Schwarze sweeping trucks. Specifically the 348 and the 347 in sweepers. They are well outfitted to get the job done with extra things like backpack blowers, debris bags, and large handheld sweepers to get into every nook and cranny of a company’s parking lot and surrounding property.

Do you do anything specific when it comes to environmental challenges?

We follow all the state’s regulations on the proper disposal of hazardous items, like paint and tires. We have a dumping location on our property, and we use containers that we own.

Any upcoming new tech that might work for your business?

We are a traditional sweeping and property maintenance company. New tech doesn’t apply to us unless it’s going to allow our employees to do their jobs better. We do take images of our crews doing their jobs because we’re so proud of the great work they do!
