A company that has been in the street sweeper business for more than 30 years knows how to keep its customers happy. That’s why Schwarze Industries is eager to begin 2010 with an array of product changes based on customer requests.

The Huntsville, Alabama-based company is releasing its new GS6 Regenerative Air Street Sweeper this year, debuting after a successful introduction in the European market, according to company head Raymond Massey.

“Based on these extremely positive results, we have decided to move forward with distribution of this new machine for the North and South American markets. The GS6 includes a 6.5 cubic yard debris hopper, 39 inch diameter gutter brooms with optional hydraulic tilt and GEO (and) a 250 gallon dust suppression system,” Massey said.

The machine has a “standard sweeping head with our new hydraulic curtain lifter and our new automated sweeper standby system. The engineering on the new GS6 is cutting edge with a completely new approach to sweeper frame design and auxiliary engine mounting.”

To further meet customers’ demands, Schwarze is introducing standard LED lighting for all of its sweeper products this year, with the exception of the floodlights. “While the floodlights are still incandescent, we are offering an LED option. The addition of LEDs lowers the overall electric draw and increases the life expectancy of the light and alternator,” Massey explained. More importantly, the LED lighting has lower maintenance costs.

“We have several additional changes to current products based on the requests from our customers that include new extremely durable inspection door latches for all machines, a new gutter broom design with extended reach,” he said.

In addition, the company has made RPM changes for the S333SE model and hopper screen changes for the 3471 and 3481 machines. It has also changed the hopper design of the A4000 to increase capacity and added a bolt-in suction tube, a bolt-on hopper shroud and a hydraulically operated steel dump door.
Schwarze has redesigned the water system on the A4000 to the current field proven electric pump (that is) utilized on other A series machines. finally, the company has added an optional pneumatic gutter broom down pressure controls for the A7000, and A8000 models.

“Our goal for 2010 is to continue to improve the Schwarze Industries, Inc. product offering and reduce the overall cost of unit ownership of Schwarze products to increase the overall profits of our end users,” Massey said.

>Patented filtration system ideal for efficient removal of fine dust particles

Patented filtration system ideal for efficient removal of fine dust particles

ELGIN, Ill. (Dec. 22, 2009) – Elgin Sweeper has introduced the Crosswind® NX® high-performance regenerative air sweeper for use in environmentally sensitive sweeping. The new machine includes all the performance, maintenance and design features of the Crosswind sweeper, which has been popular with users worldwide for more than 20 years. Equipped with the patented NX filtration technology introduced on Guzzler industrial vacuum loaders by Federal Signal in 2002, the Crosswind NX is ideal for efficient capture and removal of fine dust particles.

“The Crosswind NX is fully verified to the latest Toronto Protocol and delivers ultra-low dust emissions and outstanding stormwater material removal,” said Brian Giles, sweeper product manager at Elgin Sweeper. “This sweeper removes small particulate matter from roads and city streets without the release of potentially harmful fine dust into the atmosphere, resulting in cleaner streets, improved public health and improved air and stormwater quality."

The extra-wide, 12-foot sweep path on the Crosswind NX is suited for municipalities, contractors, airport applications and general maintenance sweeping in all weather conditions, all temperatures and in wet or dry environments.

Airflow and dust separation system
The Crosswind NX functions like a standard Crosswind for picking up debris, but unlike the standard Crosswind, a significant portion of the air flowing through the pickup head is diverted off and filtered to remove the dust. This dust is then pumped directly into the hopper, leaving a cleaner airflow to return to the pressure slot.

As the filter systems on competitive sweepers begin to plug, less air is filtered and more unfiltered air begins to circulate in the regenerative loop, potentially increasing fan wear,” Giles said. “Utilizing a secondary filter fan and continuously automatic cleaning filters, the Crosswind NX exhausts nearly 20 percent of the total air flow, resulting in a powerful and constant negative pressure in the pickup head. It’s like opening the vacuum enhancer or sweeping uneven surfaces without generating any fugitive dust.”

NX technology
The NX technology from Federal Signal has consistently proven to outperform other filtration systems in mobile, pneumatic conveying applications, particularly in high-dust loading conditions. The system incorporates an array of vertically-oriented filter bags, which provide high efficiency filtration of 99.997 percent at 0.5 micron. Made with GE’s BHA-TEX ePTFE membrane, the filter bags ensure the fewest cleaning cycles, reducing energy consumption and filter fatigue.

When the Crosswind NX is operating, the filtration system is always in a vacuum condition, which ensures that any potential leak point results in inward leakage rather than dust emission.

“Elgin Sweeper customers are looking for equipment to help them comply with tough environmental regulations,” Giles said. “We’re confident the Crosswind NX sweeper, with its innovative filtration technology, will help revolutionize the way municipalities manage their air and storm water pollution efforts.”

ELGIN, Ill. (Dec. 11, 2009) – Elgin Sweeper has introduced the Elgin Mobile Camera system as an option for its line of environmentally efficient street sweepers. The multi-camera system, which includes both mirror and rear-view camera kits, provides sweeper operators with expanded visibility to the main and side brooms – as well as to the rear of the sweeper – for improved performance.

“Street sweepers often need to negotiate tight spots, take difficult corners and make critical maneuvers in reverse, which requires good visibility to the front, sides and rear of the machine, as well as to the traffic and work areas,” said Frank Ligori, national parts marketing manager at Elgin Sweeper. “With the Elgin Mobile Camera system, the monitor in the cab provides the operator with a detailed view of the main and side brooms to check the collection of debris. The operator can also switch to a rear view of the sweeper when backing up, turning or changing lanes.”

In 2008, Elgin Sweeper began installing rear-view cameras on new street sweepers as standard equipment, with the side mirror camera kit available as an option. Available for Elgin Sweeper’s Broom Bear®, Crosswind®, Eagle®, Pelican® and Whirlwind® models, the cameras and monitor are designed for durability and can withstand the knocks, bumps and vibrations sweepers encounter on a daily basis.

The Elgin Mobile Camera system includes such features as high-resolution Sony CCD cameras for outstanding image quality; 5.6-inch color TFT-LCD monitors; automatic reverse or turn signal camera activation; infrared LEDs for night vision and multi-voltage capability (12/24 VDC). The system also includes a two-year warranty.

“For sweepers already in service, the complete Elgin Mobile Camera system is available as a retrofit package which combines the rear-view and side mirror camera kits,” Ligori said. “These fit on Elgin sweepers and can also be installed by your local Elgin dealer on other brands of sweepers.”

“The mobile camera system is yet another example of Elgin Sweeper’s commitment to our municipal and contractor customers to improve operator performance and comfort,” Ligori said.

For additional information or detailed specifications on the Elgin Mobile Camera system, please see your local Elgin Sweeper dealer, call 1-847/741-5370, or visit www.elginsweeper.com.
